Despensa / Food Pantry
St. Andrew founded an emergency food pantry to serve the Danville community and assist people recently laid off from Petit Jean Poultry. Petit Jean Poultry’s de-boning plant in the area closed its plant in Danville and laid-off over 600 employees on January 30, 2009. The first week of operating the food bank over 20,000lbs of food was donated and distributed! In the subsequent weeks more donations have come from the  Arkansas Foodbank Network, River Valley Regional Food Bank, and Arkansas Rice Depot as cordinated through the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance.  Stallion Transportation Group out of Beebe has donated transportation on numberous occassions, delivering the food right to our door. Tyson Foods donated and delivered a 53 foot tractor trailer of frozen chicken. United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) donated funds to St. Andrew to help pay the gas for the Tyson frozen food truck and purchase new shelving for the food pantry. Many other Churches, groups and individuals have made it all possible.  Spesial thanks to St. Joseph's in Conway, AR and St. John's in Russelville, AR. Volunteers from the St Andrews parish jumped in to help make the whole operation possible by forming  teams of volunteers each week to unload the trucks, repack the food and distribute it to the many people who came to the door. During the first week of operation, 789 families were served through the food bank. Subsequent weeks have served between 300 and 600 families.
